A photo campaign highlighting the faces and voices of diverse students at Saginaw Valley State University. Our voices can often go unheard on this campus, our experiences can be devalued, our presence can be questioned-- this project is our way of speaking back, of claiming this campus, of standing up to say: We are here. This place is ours. We, TOO, are Saginaw Valley.
Not only can the environment disenfranchise our black populations, but it can also affect the climate for other ethnicities and races, sexual and gender identities, religions, and other societally-based identities.
#itooamsaginawvalley expands upon inspirations into a campus-wide movement towards community and allyhood.
The #itooamsaginawvalley photo campaign is inspired by the #itooamharvard photo campaign and I, Too, Am Harvard, a play based on interviews with members of the black community exploring and affirming diverse experiences as black students at Harvard College.
